Yesterday, some news outlets reported that Manhyia Palace has rejected Nana Yaw Amponsah’s appointment as the CEO of Asante Kotoko after the Asantehene’s Chief of Staff’s Personal Assistant, Kwame Aboagye Mensah said it is not true he [Nana Yaw Amponsah] has or is being appointed as the CEO of the club.
“Everyone should take note that Asante Kotoko is a big brand and it can’t work with someone who is not secretive,” Aboagye said on Opemsuo Radio.
“Being interviewed by the Board of Directors and everything said during the meeting is in the media, how can we work with such an individual?”
“If people have forgotten, let me remind that of Osei Kuffour publicly said he’s the new President of Asante Kotoko. Did Osei Kuffour get the opportunity to lead Asante Kotoko after all the interviews?
“We have plans for the club and announcements are not to be made by the public but His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.”
However, Aboagye in an interview on Kessben FM today said he did not say that Manhyia has rejected the appointment of Nana Yaw Amponsah.
Aboagye said he said he only talked about how disappointed the ‘elders’ are of Amponsah’s interview with the board getting leaked.
He explained that he only compared his situation to that of Samuel Osei Kuffour.
Amponsah added that he only wanted to tell people that they do not want board meeting discussions to be leaked and it does not matter who leaked the information.
When asked if Nana Yaw Amponsah is out of the race due to his comment, Aboagye replied, “everything is in the board’s hands so if they tell us their decision, we will know what to do.”
