Tragedy struck at Gomoa Nyanyano as two school children lost their lives, and another remains missing after a drowning incident during the Christmas break. The victims, originally from Kasoa, had gone swimming when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Prompted by a distress call from concerned members of the community, the police quickly responded, successfully rescuing 12 of the children. Despite extensive search efforts, the bodies of two children, aged between 10 and 15, were eventually recovered. Unfortunately, one child is still missing, intensifying the gravity of the situation.
Anita Love Obo Amissah, the Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, confirmed the incident and expressed her deep sorrow over the untimely loss of young lives during the holiday season. She revealed that representatives from the Ghana Education Service (GES) had visited the parents and the school owner to provide support and condolences in the aftermath of the tragic event. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of safety precautions, especially during recreational activities, to prevent such heartbreaking accidents.
