Two individuals suspected of being involved in a robbery attempt have been identified by the Mamponteng Police in the Ashanti Region. The suspects are named as Philip Awuah, known as ‘Opanka,’ aged 28, and Kwaku Yeboah Stephen, aged 23. Following their alleged theft, both men are currently in critical condition as they fight for their lives.
According to reports from the Daily Guide Newspaper, the incident took place on August 13, 2023, in the Tewobaabi community near Mamponteng. The suspects reportedly entered the community in the early hours of the morning with the intention of committing theft, but were caught in the act.
During the incident, a mob reportedly descended upon the suspects, subjecting them to brutal beatings. Some individuals reportedly used sharp machetes to attack them openly. Consequently, both thieves sustained severe injuries and were left in a weakened state following the mob’s departure from the scene.
Shortly after, the Mamponteng Day police patrol team discovered Yeboah Stephen and Philip Awuah lying in a bush, covered in blood and bearing multiple cutlass wounds. The police promptly transported both suspects to the Methodist Healing Faith Hospital in Ankaase, where they were admitted and received medical treatment, as reported by the Daily Guide newspaper.
Initial investigations by the police revealed that the suspects had traveled to Madina, an area within Tewobaabi in the Ashanti region, with the intention of committing theft. However, their endeavors were thwarted as they were pursued by the community.
The Mamponteng Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter to establish the accurate details of the case. If found guilty of robbery, appropriate action will be taken against the two suspected thieves.
