28-year old farmer drowns while crossing river Offin

A 28-year woman, Mariam ‘Mayly’ Ampofo has died at Manso while attempting to cross River Offin.

Mayly drowned in the presence of her two children while attempting to get hold of a canoe on the river.

Mayly who knew how to sail the canoe did not know how to swim, therefore, she got into the water and tried to pull the canoe to the river bank so that she and her children can cross the river.

However, due to the activities of illegal miners in the river, the depth of the river has increased and Mayly struggled to grab the canoe.

Her eldest child ran back to her father who was still on their father and informed him about what is happening to their mother.

Mayly was still alive when she was pulled from the river but she died on the way to the hospital.
