Huu, Ashanti Region – A devastating incident occurred in the community of Huu, located in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, where three school girls tragically lost their lives in a fire. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, occurred when the vehicle they were traveling in after school caught fire and exploded, resulting in severe burn injuries for others.
The victims, aged seven, six, and five, were among the passengers on board a 207 Benz vehicle. Two other passengers on the vehicle also suffered fatal burns, while the driver managed to escape the blaze.
According to reports from Otec News reporter, Ebenezer Boakye, the explosion not only claimed lives but also resulted in the burning of a mobile money vendor’s container, three motorbikes, and an electricity high-tension pole, plunging the entire community into darkness.
It was reported that the 207 Benz vehicle was carrying containers filled with petrol and diesel on its roof when the children boarded the car. The incident occurred after a school bus carrying the children broke down in Huu, prompting the teacher in charge to transfer six of the children to the ill-fated vehicle, which was supposed to take them to Edwenase.
“The vehicle instantly exploded when the driver switched on the ignition key. Three of the six children were rescued, but one of them sustained severe burns,” explained the reporter.
The survivor of the explosion is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital, as shared by Boakye during an interview on Otec FM’s morning show, ‘Nyansapo.’
Eyewitnesses at the scene mentioned that they suspected the explosion may have been caused by the containers loaded with fuel inside the vehicle.
Authorities, including the police in the area, have launched investigations into the tragic incident. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been transported to the mortuary, as the community mourns the loss of the young lives and seeks answers regarding the cause of the fire.
