On February 28, 2023, a well-known fisherman, Kwame Panin, aged 60, was tragically stabbed to death by a thief in Gomoa Apam, located in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 PM.
According to information gathered by Kasapa News journalist Yaw Boagyan, the victim had asked his niece to withdraw money from his wallet at a mobile money vendor shop. On her way, three thieves attacked the little girl, snatching her phone and fleeing the scene. However, one of the thief’s mobile phones fell on the ground during the commotion.
The girl picked up the thief’s phone and went home, telling her father what had happened. Around twenty minutes later, one of the thieves unexpectedly showed up at the girl’s house to retrieve his lost phone. The deceased fisherman and his niece attempted to apprehend the thief and hand him over to the police in Apam. A struggle ensued, during which the suspected thief pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest, leaving him lying in a pool of blood.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Apam Government Hospital, but unfortunately, he died shortly after arrival. His body has since been kept in the hospital’s mortuary.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are currently on a manhunt for the thieves responsible for the brutal attack.
