The government of Ghana, The Post understands will support both Kotoko and Ashanti Gold if they make it to the group stage of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.
Earlier this year, the government promised to support any Ghanaian club that makes it to the group stage or money zone of a CAF club competition when Kotoko was competing in the Confederation Cup.
The Post understands that Kotoko will receive $200, 000 while Ashanti Gold will get $150, 000 if they both make it to the group stage of the competition to help the clubs get money to finance their travels and other things.
Over the years, Ghanaian clubs except Kotoko have been struggling to compete in CAF competitions due to financial problems, however, this move by the government will reduce the financial burden on the clubs.
Ghana League Clubs Association (GhaLCA) have also written to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ask the government for additional support to enable them to get more funds. GhaLCA in its letter to the Minister, indicated that the money from CAF does not arrive on time, therefore, it would help the clubs if government would agree to provide the additional support to the clubs to so that they would not have to rely on the money from CAF when competing in either the Champions League or the Confederation Cup.
The government, however, is yet to decide on the additional support.
