We need to do a lot to keep our best players in Ghana – George Amoako

The CEO of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, George Amoako has urged Ghanaian clubs to do their best to keep their best players in Ghana.

Ghanaian clubs have for a long time struggled to keep hold of their best players even when the player is just a year into his contract.

George Amoako in an interview said that Ghanaian clubs “need to do a lot” to keep “the quality players” before they can compete well in Africa.

Using Esperance as an example, Amoako said: “you cannot sell your quality players to Esperance and compete with them.”

“What do you think will happen?”, he asked.

“In Ghana when a player is playing well today and he gets a contract outside the country tomorrow, he will put pressure on you sell him.”

He attributed the reason why players do that to the economic hardship in the country.

Amoako further added that the country is blessed with quality players so although we keep selling our best players, we are also able to replace them.

However, “if we put the right things together a little bit, we can produce a lot of talented players but it will not be easy.”
