Kumasi Asante Kotoko will on Thursday announce where their new venue for the ongoing 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League will be after the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was closed down temporary yesterday.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) in a statement announced the closed down the 40, 000 capacity stadium to renovate the stadium, however, the stadium will be opened for the celebration of the Independence Day which will for the first time be marked in Kumasi and outside Accra for the second time.
When the stadium was closed down for renovation before the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, Kotoko played their home games at the Konongo Waterloo Park and the club is reportedly considering it again. Last year, the stadium was again closed down for works to be done one the pitch as the Confederation of African Football was not happy with its state during Kotoko’s participation in the Confederation’s Cup.

Kotoko is also considering the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, as well as, that of their regional rivals, Ashanti Gold’s Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi.
While some management members are disappointed in the closure of the stadium, others have indicated they have nothing to say as the NSA and the Ministry for Youth and Sports has already informed them of the renovation works.
