West African Football Academy (WAFA) has beaten Obuasi Ashanti Gold 6-1 at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope after struggling to win in their last four games at home.
The home side should have taken the lead in the 16th minute but Richard Danso could not put the ball at the back of the net.
WAFA kept putting the pressure on Ash Gold and in the 27th minute, centre-back Kondau Yiadom header gave the home side the first goal.
After WAFA’s goal, Ash Gold controlled the game but Appiah McCarthy’s long-range shot hit the crossbar. Amos Nkrumah equalized with a header for the Miners six minutes after WAFA’s goal.
The celebration was cut short in the 39th minute as WAFA’s Andrews Ntim stole the ball from an Ash Gold defender and made sure he did not miss the chance to make it 2-1 for the home side.
The start of the second half was not as good as the first half for Ash Gold as WAFA got a penalty two minutes into the game. Sampson Agyapong was brought down and Ibrahim Abukari scored from the spot-kick to the home side a two-goal lead.
A cross to the far end of Ash Gold’s goalpost reached Yiadom who converted it beautifully to make it 4-1 and his second of the day in the 75th minute.
Daniel Owusu who came on for Sampson Agyapong in the 60th minute registered his name on the scoring sheet after he was put through by Eric Asamany and he scored WAFA’s fifth goal of the day.
Haruna Mola came on in the 90+2 minute for Richard Danso and it did not take long for the debutant to tap in a cross from Atte to score his first professional goal.
A win for Ashanti Gold would have taken them to the top of the league, however, after conceding 6 goals, Kotoko has now overtaken the Miners on the league table on goal difference.
