The communications officer for Christian Children’s Funds of Canada, William Anim Dankwa has indicated steps are being taken to end child marriage.
Speaking to journalists, he indicated poverty is the main reason why parents allow their children to marry early.
He posited that although it is very common in the north, people do not talk about it.
Apart from poverty, cultural practices he explained is part of the reason why child marriage is common in the region.
Through their organization, they have been able to save a number of children from child marriages.
He, therefore, urged people to help them put an end to the practice.
Child marriage is not only a problem in Ghana but also in other African countries.
According to UNICEF report in 2017, there has been a 40% reduction in Child marriage in Ghana as compared to other countries like Burkina Faso and Cape Verde where there seems to be no sign of reduction.
The government of Ghana has been campaigning against early and forced marriage in the Northern parts of the country, this William Anim Dankwa believes is the reason why the people are not willing to open up about people involved in the practice.
