The players of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have reportedly agreed to cut-off their salary by 40%.
The decision to cut-off the salary was reached after the senior players and the management members discussed the need to reduce the salary.
This decision has made Kotoko the first Ghanaian club to reduce the salary of the players since the COVID-19 pandemic started and the league was suspended in Ghana.
The General Manager of the club, Nana Coker confirmed the decision today on Kumasi FM.
“It is something we initially discussed at management level. We considered our situation and our financial strength in containing our expenses and measures to help sustain the club during the suspension of the league due to COVID-19 and we considered pay-cut as one of the measures,” he said.
“We called the coach and tasked him to engage the players on our behalf and he has reported back to us they have listened to our plea and have accepted a pay cut. It is a 40% pay-cut and will be implemented soon.”
However, according to a report, the players are not happy with the decision but no one is bold to express his displeasure with the decision by the management members.
