Last week, there were reports of what some people have described as a failed ‘coup d’état’ in the governing New Patriotic Party.
It all started when Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko congratulated Yaw Buabeng Asamoah as the new Director of Communications for the party.
He wrote on his Facebook page ‘Congrats to Yaw Buabeng Asamoah for your appointment as the new Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party. Clearly, there was a huge leadership vacuum in the ruling party’s communication machinery and we are all happy to hear that Chairman Blay, General John Boadu and the team have all acted accordingly.’
Later on, there were news making rounds that the MP for Adenta and former Deputy Communications Director, Yaw Asamoah will have Richard Nyamah and Kofi Agyapong as his Deputy Directors of Communications.
Unexpectedly, the leaders of the Party came out to deny the said appointment saying ‘Adomako Baafi is still at post’.
Yaw Adomako Baafi also described the incident as a ‘coup’ when he spoke to Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben FM.
In the interview, he stated that when Buabeng Asamoah as Deputy Communications Director the party lost the 2012 elections but when he became the Director of Communications, they won the elections.
‘Sammy Awuku, Freddie Blay and all the big wigs in the party all support him’, he said.
However, he indicated that he is considering ‘stepping down’ from the position due to the incident although he also got support from all the party communicators.
Although the leaders have denied the appointment of new Communications Directors, Yaw Adomako Baafi also said showed they later appoint them then it means they did not tell the truth.
For now, Yaw Adomako Baafi is still at post and Gabby’s post is still on facebook.
But was it really an attempt to ‘overthrow’ Yaw Adomako or Gabby Asare Otchere Darko made the announcement too early?
