During the introduction of dignitaries at the State of the Nation Address by the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin at the Parliament House today, the minority Members of Parliament chanted the name of the alleged 1st wife of the Vice President, Ramatu Bawumia after the speaker mentioned the name of his wife Samira Bawumia.
The Speaker replied to the MPs by saying “I don’t know which of you has a girlfriend called Ramatu but we don’t have any dignitary here called Ramatu.”
The name Ramatu Bawumia became the talked of the town after he, the Speaker of Parliament mentioned it during the introduction of dignitaries at the swearing-in of the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on 7 January 2020. The Speaker after mentioning the name said he does not know if the wife of the Vice-President has “sworn an affidavit to change her because that is the name that was submitted to him.”
A photo of the alleged wife of the Vice-President’s 1st wife later surfaced on the internet.
News of the Vice President having a 1st wife came as a shock to Ghanaians as Samira Bawumia has always been introduced as his only wife since he came into the limelight in 2008.
