After it became clear that Apple retained the ability to decrypt most of what is stored on an iCloud backup at the request of government entities, including the FBI, many users have been frantically attempting to find an alternate way to keep their files and data safe and secure, but just how can you do that easily?
Using iCloud is the quickest and most convenient way, but that’s exactly what Apple intended, however users do face alternate options, one of which is a local backup.
Local Backup instructions
* Connect your phone or device to a computer using the USB charging cable
* Open iTunes
* In the iTunes app, click a small phone icon in the upper left corner and give your computer authorisation credentials by clicking ‘Authorise this computer’
* Look for the category labelled backups in the app and click encrypt iPhone backup, using a password that you won’t forget
* The backup will then start automatically and save files to your computer without the need to involve apple.

* Tap backup
* Select the type of data you want to backup (photos, contacts, videos etc)
* Click backup now
* The app will the automatically add your data to your account on Acronis’ web storage servers
Is it just iPhones?
No, these above methods will work for all apple devices below a certain age and depending on the latest updates.
iPads, Apple Mac computers and any iPods above the original iPod touch will all backup in the same way if you wish to skip past using the iCloud application and servers.
