Asante Kotoko came from behind to beat Dreams FC 3-1 in their first game of the Ghana Premier League this season.
Three out of the four goals were scored by players making their debut for their club and two of the goals were also scored by players making their Premier League debut.
Dreams’ Fatawu Isahaku would have made all the headlines if the game had not turned out the way it did.
The Ghanaian U-20 star’s individual brilliance gave the home side the lead in the 63rd minute. The youngster dribbled the Kotoko defenders and scored a sublime goal to open the scoring. It was the youngster’s debut in the league.
Kotoko had to wait to till the 86th minute for the equaliser. Mudasiru got a through ball from Isaac Oppong who was also making his debut in the league. Mudasiru played the ball through the legs of the Dreams keeper to make it all square.
One minute later, Oppong added his name to scoring sheet with a shot to the roof of the net to make it 2-1 for the away team.
Lamptey who was also making his debut for Kotoko scored the third goal with this signature shot. Last season, Lamptey scored most of his goals from long range and he did the same on his debut for Kotoko to make it 3-1.
While Issahuku’s singlehandedly terrorised Kotoko defenders, Asante Kotoko’s Isaac Oppong’s 16 minutes on the pitch was fabulous. Oppong after giving Madasiru the assist and scoring his own goal also gave Lamptey the assist to score the final goal.
The game Kotoko played today is totally different from their style of play last season. The team now possess and attack more and their game does not depend on their wingers like last season.
