An Accra High Court has told the University of Ghana to change its decision on not to give a student’s certificate to him.
Early this year, The Post reported that a student of the University of Ghana, Collins Owusu-Sekyere has dragged the school to court for withholding his certificate and transcript.

According to the plaintiff, he was wrongfully accused of organizing a health walk. Also, his fundamental human right was infringed upon as he was not given a fair hearing. He was later expelled from his hall (Commonwealth Hall) after the incident happened.
Owusu-Sekyere dragged the school to the Accra High Court in March this year after the school failed to give him his certificate since he completed school in May 2016.
The lawyers for the University of Ghana did not respond to the writ that was served to them and throughout the court proceedings, they only raised objections.
Owusu-Sekyere and his lawyer, Nana AKwasi Osei Bonsu argued that because the decision by the University of Ghana was made without a fair hearing, they pleaded with the court for “damages for the violation of Plaintiff’s fundamental human right” and “any other order (s) as to this Honourable Court may seem fit.”
The court, presided over by Judge Abodakpi, yesterday at the Human Right Court 1 ruled in favour of the plaintiff, Collins Owusu-Sekyere as lawyers for the University of Ghana failed to appear before the court.
The court has ordered the University of Ghana to give Collins Owusu-Sekyere ¢3,000 for the time being while the court takes a final decision on the “damages”.
And most importantly, Collins Owusu-Sekyere who read Political Science and Religion Studies will finally be given his certificate as well as have access to his transcript.
Owusu-Sekyere after the ruling took to his facebook page to thank his God, his lawyer and his fellow vandals.
“Help me to say thank you Almighty God for granting me victory in this battle. Human Right court 1 Accra declared me winner and asked that my certificate should be released to me. The court quashed the decision of university of Ghana, Legon and granted that what happened was against my fundamental human right of fair hearing.
Special thanks goes to my Lawyer, Nana Akwasi Osei Bonsu for his selfless sevice to me. Sir may God bless you.

In fact it hasn’t been easy for the past two years as my certificate was withheld for a wrong not done.
I want to use this opportunity to challenge each and everyone of us to fight for our right till we get what we want.
I have made up my mind to encourage various SRC to have lawyer on their own due to the bad experience i went through. The service of the lawyer should be paid by students through their SRC dues. I strongly believe this will limit the level of intimidation students go through for wrong not done.
In my case for instance i had to suffer for two good years because i had no lawyer to defend me.
Let us embrace Nicholo Machiavelli idea of fighting timidity. Our youthful exuberance should help us fight injustice anywhere which has been a threat to justice everywhere.
