A 28-year old man called Kofi Atta has been arrested after he killed his own mother at Amoaman at Atwima-Nwabiagya District in the Ashanti Region.
According to the family, on 3rd November 2018, a traditional priest came to their town to perform some rites. When he was leaving, he told the residents that something will happen in the town.
On 4 November at dawn, Kofi Atta, according to the family, got naked and started saying he is a star and also told his family he is supposed to be living outside Ghana but they have sold all his things.
Kofi Atta left home and went to the chief’s Palace and started knocking on the door. He started kicking the door as it was locked. Kofi Atta was able to break in and assaulted a man he met at the palace. He was arrested and taken to the police station.
Later in the day, the police called the family to come for him as he was fighting with his fellow inmates. While leaving the police station, he told his family and the police he will not leave until they take him abroad.
They managed to take him home but he refused to eat whenever they give him food. The family called pastors and traditional priests who came to pray for him and poured libation for him respectively.
Kofi Atta while the prayers and the pouring of libation were going on told them they cannot make him weak, however, he calmed down at a point in time.
According to the family, they wanted to take him somewhere but Kofi Atta told them someone has told him not to enter the car. He entered the car twice but got down and continued to tell them someone is telling him not to enter the car.
His mother was called to come and see him as he was not getting any better. As expected the mother tried to hold his son but he pushed her and attacked her. Kofi Atta used objects to hit his mother until she became lifeless.
The police came to the scene to take the body of Kofi Atta’s mother and also arrest Kofi Atta again.
At the moment it is not clear if Kofi Atta is suffering from any psychological problem or his action fulfilled what the traditional priest said.
