Ghanaian dancehall artist, Stonebwoy, recently revealed that Asamoah Gyan, a former Ghanaian football player and all-time top scorer for the national team, had paid for his knee surgery in Germany seven years ago. On May 7, 2016, Stonebwoy, whose real name is Livingstone Etse Satekla, underwent surgery to correct a knee anomaly that had left him limping.
The Bhim Nation president had been struggling with the knee abnormality for some time, and it was a serious hindrance to his music career. However, it was the Black Stars’ all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan, who came through for the musician. Gyan, who is also a celebrated Ghanaian sports figure, stepped in and covered the cost of the surgery, allowing Stonebwoy to get the medical attention he needed to continue his career.
To mark the seventh anniversary of his treatment, the 2015 BET Awards winner took to social media to express his gratitude to Gyan for covering the costs of his surgery. He tweeted, “Asamoah Gyan, you came through for me around this same time 7 years ago. You decided to take my surgery cost, I’m forever Grateful.” Gyan, who was reportedly surprised by the revelation, replied, “Oh woooow. 7 years already? I’m happy to be part of this. It’s all from the heart.”
According to Stonebwoy, the gesture from Gyan was particularly meaningful as it came just five months after he had lost his mother. The emotional toll of losing a parent, combined with the physical challenges he was facing, must have made the situation even more difficult for Stonebwoy. However, Gyan’s generosity was a beacon of hope for the musician during a difficult time.
Despite having a deformed right leg as a result of an accident 22 years ago, which also claimed the life of his twin brother, Stonebwoy has not let his condition hold him back from pursuing his dream of being a musician. The dancehall artist has always been determined to overcome the challenges he has faced and has never allowed his condition to deny him the chance of living his dream. He has proved to be an inspiration to many, and his story is a reminder of the power of human kindness and generosity.
