Ghanaian Premier League referee, Franklin Akumatey has been given a 10-match ban and has also been demoted to Division 1 for the rest of the season, according to a report by Kessben FM.
Akumatey made headlines after he awarded a penalty to Bibiani Gold Stars when the ball touched a Gold Stars player’s hand in Kotoko’s 18-yard box in a Ghana Premier League game.

The penalty gave the home side the chance to score and the game ended 1-1 as Kotoko was leading when the penalty was awarded.
After the game, Akumatey apologized to Kotoko fans for the error and per Kessben FM’s report, he told the Referee Review Committee that he could not take the right decision because there was no Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
According to the report, Akumatey’s punishment was reduced after he apologised to the Review Committee.
