Former President Mahama expressed disappointment in the current government’s failure to deliver on their promises. He clarified that he has never wished for his political opponents to fail and emphasized that his vision for Ghana is for it to develop regardless of who is in power.
These comments were made during the launch of his campaign bid to contest for the flagbearer position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ho, Volta Region on March 2, 2023.
As one of the four candidates in the NDC’s flagbearer race, Mr. Mahama criticized the Akufo-Addo-led administration for underperforming due to pride and arrogance. He argued that the government has ignored opposing views and launched programs without proper planning, leading to poor outcomes. He also noted that Ghana is facing economic challenges, including high inflation and increased poverty, as a result of the current administration’s actions.
Mr. Mahama promised that if elected, the next NDC government would investigate corrupt deals that took place under the Akufo-Addo government and prosecute those found to be involved. He believes that a change in leadership is necessary to address the issues facing Ghana and move the country forward.
