On the evening of Sunday, March 5, 2023, a tragic road accident occurred on the Kintampo Highway, claiming the lives of 22 passengers. The incident was reported by Graphic.com and confirmed by GhanaWeb.
According to an eyewitness, the accident involved a Grandbird bus with registration number AS 4635 – 22 that was headed to Kumasi from Yendi, and a truck with registration number GW 1127 – P. The articulated truck, in an attempt to avoid hitting a parked car on its lane, veered off its lane and collided with the bus, resulting in the loss of 22 lives and leaving many others injured.
The crash happened on a section of the road between Kintampo and Babatokuma, and the deceased victims have been deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital morgue. Meanwhile, the injured victims are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Although the drivers of both vehicles survived the accident, they are currently in police custody, helping with the investigation. This is a tragic incident that has caused a great deal of pain and grief to the families and loved ones of the deceased. We can only hope that the injured victims will recover quickly from their injuries, and that measures will be taken to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
