Nana Yaw Amponsah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the low prize money offered in the Ghana Premier League. According to him, the monthly salary of his former Cameroonian striker, Frank Mbella, is equal to the GHC300,000 ($25,000) that the champions of the Ghanaian league receive as prize money. Mbella recently left Kotoko for Al Masry in Egypt before the start of the 2022/2023 season.

Nana Yaw Amponsah has expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the GFA supports local clubs and is using the hashtag #BuildingHeavenInHell to highlight the financial challenges faced by Ghanaian clubs. He believes that the GFA needs to do more to support the development of football in Ghana.
The 2022-2023 BetPawa Ghana Premier League has a sponsorship sum of $1 million provided by the betting firm, and each of the 18 teams competing in the league received $25,278 from this amount. An additional $1 million was allocated to marketing and promoting the league.
Nana Yaw Amponsah’s comments have sparked a debate on social media about the need for the GFA to increase its support for local clubs. Many people agree that the prize money for the Ghana Premier League is too low and needs to be increased to attract more investment in the league.
Some have also suggested that the GFA needs to explore other ways of generating revenue for the league, such as through the sale of television rights and merchandise. Others have called for the government to provide more funding for the development of football in the country.
