A man in his mid-thirties, accused of sexually abusing his 15-year-old daughter and claiming that it is a “tradition,” has been brought before a Gender-Based Violence Court at the Police Headquarters in Accra. The alleged incidents of abuse occurred on three occasions at Okushiebiade, near Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region, and the accused, Bless Gatogo, has been charged with incest and defilement. However, Gatogo has denied the charges against him.
Presided over by Dora Eshun, the court has granted Gatogo bail in the amount of GH¢20,000 and required two sureties known to the police. The next court hearing has been adjourned to March 27 for case management.
According to Chief Inspector Simon Tekpor, the victim is a 15-year-old JHS two pupil, and the accused is her biological father, who works as a mason. The prosecution stated that the victim lived with the accused and her stepmother and that in 2022, the stepmother went to attend a funeral, leaving the victim alone with her father.
The prosecution further stated that on the next day, around 5:00 am, while the accused and the victim were alone in a room, Gatogo ordered his daughter to undress with a cane, and she complied out of fear. He then allegedly had sexual intercourse with her on a blanket spread on the floor.
