Flowking Stone, the talented Ghanaian rapper also known as Kwaku Nsia Boama, has shared his reasons for building his career in Kumasi, despite his success at the beginning of his career. The artist, who is one half of the Bradez Brazde duo, rose to fame with the release of their songs ‘Simple’ and ‘One Gallon.’ However, he resisted the decision to relocate to Accra, instead choosing to remain in Kumasi to inspire young rappers in the area.
During an interview with Andy Dosty on Showtyme, Flowking Stone explained that he stayed in Kumasi because he wanted to demonstrate that it was possible to achieve success in any part of Ghana, not just the capital city. He said, “From 2003 till date, it was always about Kumasi. I was supposed to move to Accra to compete with the big rappers, but I decided to stay to let them [young rappers] know you can make it in Kumasi.”
Flowking Stone, who is the younger brother of Ghanaian lyricist Okyeame Kwame, added that he wanted to break the mindset that every young artist should move to the national capital to be accepted. Today, artists like Asaaka Boys, Yaw Tog, and Amerado are enjoying the limelight and gaining international airplay, despite being based in Kumasi.
Since embarking on a solo career, Flowking Stone has enjoyed commercial success with albums such as ‘Gifted,’ ‘Gifted II,’ and ‘Best Rapper Africa (Bra)’ to his credit.
