In the Asante Juaben district of the Ashanti region, two Community Police officers were reportedly attacked by a group of eight alleged weed dealers. The incident was captured on video and shows the attackers hitting the officers with a pestle, sticks, and stones while they were on the ground. The victims sustained injuries and were bleeding from their mouth, nose, and other parts of their body.
According to the Assembly member of Asante Juaben, Ransford Osei, the incident occurred on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Osei alleged that the police officers had arrested a friend of the attackers for dealing in illicit drugs. The officers reportedly took Gh¢1,000 from the group under the guise of giving it to their commander for the swift release of their friend. However, the group later found out that the money was not given to their commander, which led to their agitation and subsequent attack on the officers.
The attackers reportedly went to the homes of the officers to carry out the attack. One of the attackers, known as Owuraku, 26, was seen striking the officers with a pestle in the video. The other officer is named Exhibit, 33. The two attacked Community Police officers have been hospitalized and are responding to treatment.
The Juaben Police Command has since arrested six persons captured in the video attack, and the two Community Police officers have also been arrested to assist in the ongoing police investigation.
