In the Twifo Atti-morkwa District of the Central Region, several parents whose children took the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are threatening to invoke curses on officials of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) if they do not release the English paper results before the Easter break. According to the parents, their children performed well in the exam, with good aggregates like 7 and 8, but the English paper was canceled by WAEC without any tangible reason.
The frustrated parents have given WAEC until the Easter break to release the English results, or else they will invoke the wrath of powerful river goddesses of the Pra and Akua Asieduah rivers in the district. The parents, carrying chop boxes, trunks, and bottles of schnapps and akpeteshie, marched on the principal street of Twifu Praso on Tuesday to demonstrate against WAEC officials.
Madam Esther Ansah, the spokesperson for the parents, said that their children have been subject to a lot of frustration and appealed to WAEC to release the examination results urgently. The situation is alarming as three students whose English Examination paper was cancelled attempted suicide by drinking a poisonous substance a fortnight ago, according to a report by Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan. Their parents said that their wards always threaten to kill themselves if their exam paper is not released.
The parents’ frustration is understandable, as the results of the BECE are crucial for their children’s education and future prospects. However, resorting to invoking curses and threatening violence is not the solution. It is important for WAEC officials to address their concerns and provide a timely and satisfactory resolution to the issue.
