In the Bibiani Ahwianso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, a 35-year-old painter named Dandu has been accused of setting fire to Kofi Kumi, 39, resulting in his death. The deceased’s mother, Yaa Foriwaa, explained that her son had stopped at a drinking bar to buy alcohol but refused to pay for it, which led to a misunderstanding with the bartender’s wife in Sefwi Bekwai. The deceased allegedly insulted the woman in a derogatory manner, which led to an apology from the deceased’s family.
The deceased was previously accused of defilement, but he was found not guilty. However, he was still labelled as such in the community. The bartender’s wife reportedly called him a molester, which led to the alleged insult. Despite the apology, the bartender allegedly threatened to set the deceased ablaze after some residents narrated the incident to him.
The bartender allegedly bought petrol and mixed it with some other chemicals, attacked Kofi Kumi in his sleep, and set him on fire. Kofi Kumi was rushed to the hospital but died the following day. The deceased’s family is seeking justice from the police.
