In a distressing turn of events, Akwasi Brefo, a resident of Mpasaso in the Ahafo Region, reportedly took the life of his wife, Janet Yobo, before making an unsuccessful attempt on his own life.
According to a report from the DailyGuide newspaper, the accused individual allegedly struck his wife on the head with a farming implement while they were working on their farm, resulting in her unfortunate demise.
The report further revealed that, overwhelmed by the potential consequences of his actions, Brefo consumed a liquid substance suspected to be weedicide in an attempt to end his own life but was unsuccessful.
Citing a police report, the newspaper indicated that the incident occurred on May 22, 2023, when the couple went to the farm together.
“On 22/05/2023 around 11:00 a.m., it was reported that Janet Yobo, now deceased, accompanied her husband, suspect Akwasi Brefo, to the farm in the Mpasaso forest. Tragically, she was later killed by her husband at the farm,” stated the police report quoted by DailyGuide.
Upon arriving at the scene, located approximately 5 kilometers from Mpasaso town, authorities discovered the lifeless body of Janet Yobo lying on her left side in a pool of blood. She was dressed in a cream shirt and white trousers, with a green cloth draped across her chest. The examination of the body revealed a deep cut at the back of her head.
The police promptly transported the victim to the Mpasaso Health Center, where she was tragically pronounced dead. Subsequently, the mortal remains of Janet Yobo were transferred to the Plus Lab Mortuary in Mankranso for preservation and further investigation through an autopsy.
Meanwhile, the accused individual, Akwasi Brefo, is currently receiving treatment at the Mankranso Government Hospital following his failed suicide attempt.
This distressing incident has left the community in shock, and authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to gather more details surrounding the circumstances of this tragic event.
