The tragic suicide of Kwame Peter, a shoemaker from Ahafo Mim in the Asuanfo Municipal Assembly of the Ahafo Region, has taken a new twist with the emergence of a voice note shedding light on the reasons behind his decision. Peter was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room on May 3, 2023, using a sponge.
In the voice note recorded prior to his death, the deceased attributed his extreme step to his alleged wife, Amina. Expressing his pain and heartbreak, Peter accused Amina of leaving him for a wealthier man, which drove him to the point of despair. He conveyed his belief that Amina would eventually regret her actions and lamented leaving their child behind in her care.

Addressing his family and loved ones, Peter shared his rationale for taking his own life. He expressed frustration over the trials and troubles he had endured with the woman he claimed now believed she had found someone wealthier than him. He directed his message to the man who he believed had taken his wife, cautioning him against arrogance and reminding him that someone else had been prosperous before him. Peter ended his message by thanking him for “snatching” his wife and leaving them all in God’s hands.
In his emotionally charged voice note, Peter also accused Amina of greediness and criticized her family for supporting her actions despite his significant sacrifices for their daughter and the entire family. He believed that without their influence, he would have achieved wealth. He specifically mentioned Mohammed, whom he had brought from the village, educated, and cared for, but who had now given his sister to a rich man.
Peter’s voice note concluded with a farewell, urging his mother not to worry excessively and stating that he had tried to control himself but had ultimately failed. He bid his final goodbye, leaving his fate in God’s hands.
