Dr. Tony Aubynn, the Board Chairman of Medeama SC, has revealed that the club incurred an approximate total expenditure of $300,000 during their 2022/23 Ghana Premier League campaign. Tony expressed his frustration, highlighting the significant amount spent by the club over the eight-month period, while generating less revenue in return.
“It’s disheartening to receive 300,000 cedis as league winners when you can’t give what you don’t have. Would you believe that our total expenses for the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League campaign were about $300,000?” he expressed during an interview with Joysports.
Medeama SC, known as the yellow and mauves side, were officially crowned champions of the Ghana Premier League for the first time following their 3-0 victory over Tamale City on Sunday, June 11.
In the previous 2021/21 season, Asante Kotoko, the winners, received Gh₵250,000, while in the recently concluded 2022/23 season, Medeama SC, as winners, received Gh₵300,000, which is equivalent to $26,000.
Medeama SC is set to participate in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League, having previously featured in the CAF Confederations Cup in 2013 and 2015.
