Kidisil Sampson, a 24-year-old who claimed to be an evangelist, has been handed an 18-month prison sentence for engaging in false pretense and stealing the property of Mbatim Lala, a farmer residing in Kpassa within the Nkwanta North district.
Having pleaded guilty, Kidisil was convicted accordingly for his crimes, which involved engaging in sexual activity with a senior high school (SHS) girl, deceiving her under the guise of casting out an evil spirit. The incidents took place in the Nkwanta South Municipality.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lawrence Wiafi, who prosecuted the case, presented the details to the court presided over by Joseph Evans Annan Okropa. According to ASP Wiafi, on June 5, the convict visited the residence of the farmer, Mbatim Lala, in Kpassa to evangelize. During this encounter, Kidisil convinced the farmer that he could deliver him from spiritual challenges.
Subsequently, the convict requested the farmer’s motorbike, claiming he needed it to purchase an item in town. The unsuspecting farmer complied with the request. However, Kidisil failed to return the motorbike, and all attempts to locate him proved unsuccessful.
ASP Wiafi further explained that Kidisil took the motorbike from Kpassa to Nkwanta town, where he met a female student from the Nkwanta Community Day Senior High Technical School (SHTS). Utilizing the same deceitful tactics, Kidisil convinced the student to accompany him to his lodging for spiritual deliverance.
The prosecution stated that the student, in turn, invited two of her colleagues to join her. Once inside the lodging, Kidisil requested privacy to attend to the victim, which the students reluctantly granted. Shortly thereafter, unusual sounds emanated from the room, surpassing what could be perceived as ordinary prayers. The victim could be heard pleading with the so-called evangelist to stop.
Alarmed by the commotion, the two student companions forcibly opened the door and discovered Kidisil engaged in sexual intercourse with their fellow student. The students promptly reported the incident to the Nkwanta Police, while the owner of the motorbike also filed a complaint against the convict.
Following the subsequent arrest of Kidisil on June 11, the police conducted investigations, leading to his prosecution and eventual conviction.
