The Ministry of Interior has officially announced Wednesday, June 28, 2023, as a statutory public holiday in Ghana.
In a press statement signed by Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, it was confirmed that the holiday is in observance of Eid-ul-Adha, a significant celebration in the Islamic calendar.
The statement, issued on Tuesday, June 20, emphasized that the public should observe the day as a Statutory Public Holiday throughout the country.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two major holidays celebrated in Islam. It commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God’s command. The holiday serves as a reminder of the importance of faith, sacrifice, and devotion in the Islamic faith.
On this occasion, Muslims around the world gather for special prayers held at various mosques, engage in acts of charity, and partake in festive meals with family and friends. It is a time for reflection, gratitude, and sharing with those in need.
