A distressing accident occurred near the Asukawkaw bridge in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, resulting in fifteen passengers sustaining injuries. The incident took place on Monday evening around 1700 hours when a sprinter bus experienced a burst rear tire, causing it to skid off the road and plunge into the nearby bush.
The sprinter bus, bearing the registration number GE 998-21, was traveling from Accra to Dambai at the time of the accident. The injured victims were promptly transported to the WoraWora Government Hospital for further medical treatment.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Kennedy Frimpong, from the Katanga District Command, confirmed the incident in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA). Upon receiving the information, he dispatched officers to the accident scene to ensure the safety of lives and properties. The victims’ belongings and valuables were brought to the police station for safekeeping.
Mark Oduro, the Assemblyman of the Asukawkaw Electoral Area, called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to install road signage along that particular stretch of road to prevent future accidents. He noted that many drivers tend to overspeed while descending the mountain, leading to accidents.
