Despite not being initially included in coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s plans, young midfielder Clinton Opoku is now poised to continue his journey with Asante Kotoko, adding an unexpected twist to his footballing trajectory.
At 20 years old, Opoku, who joined the club from the now-defunct Phar Rangers FC two years ago, faced uncertainty about his role with the Porcupine Warriors after being deemed “surplus to requirements.”
Recent developments, however, have taken a different turn. Reports from local media indicate that the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) has stepped in to address the situation. The IMC has reportedly rejected the coach’s proposal to terminate Opoku’s contract outright.
Instead, the club is exploring the possibility of arranging a loan move for the talented young player, allowing him to further develop his skills and gain experience elsewhere.
Opoku’s contract with Kotoko is valid until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. His tenure with the club has been marked by a series of unfortunate injuries, including a knee surgery that resulted in a substantial period of absence from the field.
These setbacks have limited his appearances on the pitch, with Opoku participating in just six league matches for the Kumasi-based team.
Asante Kotoko, who faced a disappointing season in the past, are currently situated in Beposo, diligently working towards reversing their fortunes in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
