Ousted Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba has been released from house arrest and is reported to be in good health.
A representative of the military junta visited Bongo at his residence and confirmed his well-being. Bongo retains all his rights and privileges as a former president, including the ability to travel abroad for medical treatment.
This development follows Bongo’s viral appeal for international support when the military coup occurred. However, there is no mention of the whereabouts of his wife Sylvia Bongo or the arrest of his first son Nourredin Bongo on corruption and treason charges.
The leader of the junta, General Brice Oligui Nguema, was sworn in as the leader of the transitional government but has not yet revealed a transition plan or period.
