In a thrilling Ghana Premier League encounter, Asante Kotoko faced an unexpected setback as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bibiani Gold Stars at DUN’s Park on Saturday during matchday 2 of the 2023/24 season.
The match was marked by dramatic turns of events, with Prince Owusu Kwabena of Gold Stars breaking the deadlock in the 66th minute. The visitors, Asante Kotoko, showed their determination as they swiftly equalized through Sherif Mohammed in the 71st minute. However, Eric Bosomtwi delivered the decisive blow, scoring the winning goal for Bibiani Gold Stars in the 74th minute. This victory marked Gold Stars’ first win in the current Ghana Premier League campaign.
After the final whistle, Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, spoke to StarTimes Ghana, expressing his perspective on the game. Coach Ogum maintained an optimistic tone, stating that despite the loss, his team did not disgrace themselves.
“After the whistle, the players’ heads were up. There is nothing like a tropical confidence,” Ogum remarked. “We look confident, we are motivated. We came and did our best, but I don’t think we disgraced ourselves. We played well; unfortunately, we conceded that second goal out of nowhere,” he added.
Asante Kotoko now find themselves without a win after two games in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season. They are determined to bounce back and secure their first victory of the season when they host Karela United in the upcoming matchday three fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors will be aiming to regroup, learn from their experiences, and come back stronger in pursuit of their Ghana Premier League aspirations.
