In a legal case that highlights an alleged double sale of land in Abbeyman, Accra, a 51-year-old mason, Samuel Kwesi Addison, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Addison is facing accusations of making conflicting land grants to two individuals, selling the same plot to each for different prices, one at GHC70,000 and the other at GHC100,000.
The accused has entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of fraudulent land transaction. Chief Inspector Benson Benneh led the prosecution and requested a bench warrant for Evelyn Elorm Ahedor, a businesswoman, who is accused of unlawfully entering the same land, thus facing a charge of trespassing.
According to the prosecution, Addison had informed Evelyn Elorm Ahedor to appear in court for her involvement in the case.
Presiding over the matter, Judge Evelyn Asamoah granted bail to Addison in the sum of GHC200,000, with the condition that three sureties must be provided, two of whom must be public servants. The court directed the prosecution to file disclosures by November 22, 2023.
The case centers on a complaint made by Linda Agyemang Prempeh, an accountant residing in Accra. Addison, the first accused, resides in Amamoley, Accra, while Evelyn, the second accused, is a resident of Olebu, also in Accra.
According to the prosecution, in May 2023, Addison placed his half plot of land in Abbeyman, Accra, up for sale. The complainant, Linda Agyemang Prempeh, and her husband, Nana Agyeman Prempeh, expressed interest in purchasing the land after seeing it. Subsequently, they negotiated a price of GHC70,000 with Addison and made an initial payment of GHC20,000, agreeing to pay the balance on August 31, 2023.
Upon returning from the USA on the agreed date, Linda Agyemang Prempeh was unable to reach Addison for the outstanding payment, and when she visited the site, she discovered that Evelyn, the second accused, was developing the land. Evelyn claimed she had bought the land from Addison, leading to a dispute.
The matter was reported to the police, and during the investigation, it was confirmed that Addison had indeed sold the same plot of land to both the complainant and Evelyn, but at different prices, resulting in the legal proceedings against him.
