Renowned Afrobeats artist, investor, and entrepreneur, Mr Eazi, recently shared a touching narrative of how Ghanaian music icons Sarkodie and Mugeez played a pivotal role in rescuing his career during his university days.
Mr. Eazi, initially an event organizer in college, recounted a challenging incident when the artists he had booked for an award show couldn’t attend due to financial constraints. In his own words, “In my early days as an event organizer at the university, I faced a situation where some artists I had booked for an award show couldn’t attend due to monetary issues.”
Facing scrutiny, Mr. Eazi found support from upcoming artists at his school who became his friends, enabling him to book them for events. Despite financial setbacks from organizing parties, they persisted out of love for their projects. Eventually transitioning to award shows, Mr. Eazi organized the first social awards at his university.
As a student, he recalled booking Sarkodie, R2Bees, and Wande Coal for the event. Unfortunately, Wande Coal didn’t make an appearance, leading to misconceptions that Mr. Eazi had absconded with the funds. Reflecting on the challenging situation, Mr. Eazi revealed, “I didn’t know that he [Wande Coal] didn’t receive his full money.”
Despite financial constraints and incomplete payments, Mr. Eazi approached Sarkodie and Mugeez with humility. “I remember begging Sarkodie, who was owed $2,500.00, pleading with him even though I hadn’t paid him completely. He came on stage, saving me with his presence. That’s why, till today, R2Bees’ Mugeez is more than a friend; he’s a brother. He came, jumped on stage, and killed it,” Mr. Eazi expressed gratefully.
