Mohammed Polo, a key figure in Ghana’s 1978 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, is optimistic about the Black Stars’ capability to neutralize Liverpool’s prolific attacker, Mohamed Salah.
As Ghana prepares for the 34th AFCON edition in Ivory Coast, Polo expresses confidence that the team has the defensive prowess to thwart Salah’s impact. Despite recent shaky performances, Polo emphasizes the role of the technical staff in strategizing against Salah’s threat.
“I think we have the players capable of stopping his danger. This is definitely the work of the technical staff,” Polo stated in an interview with btolat.com.
Looking ahead to the group stage, Polo predicts Ghana’s qualification as runners-up in Group B, acknowledging the challenges posed by strong competitors like Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
“I expect Ghana to qualify as runner-up to Egypt in Group Two, but advancement will not be easy in the presence of Cape Verde and Mozambique,” the former Hearts of Oak coach added.
Ghana is set to face Egypt on January 18, 2024, at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan in their second group game. The Black Stars will also contend with Cape Verde and Mozambique in the group stage.
