The Ghanaian national football team, the Black Stars, engaged in an international friendly clash with Namibia on Monday, January 8, in preparation for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium saw Namibia seizing the initiative early on, while the Black Stars struggled to assert control. The first half concluded with both teams on even footing after a less-than-impressive performance by Ghana.
Despite a modest improvement in their gameplay during the second half, the Black Stars couldn’t entirely dominate the match. Spectators were left unimpressed as the national team failed to exhibit a high-intensity performance.
In a bid to turn the tide, Coach Chris Hughton implemented some positive changes in the latter part of the friendly, but Namibia effectively thwarted the hosts’ threats, resulting in a goalless draw.
This friendly fixture marked the last game for the Black Stars before the commencement of the 2023 AFCON on Saturday, January 13. Ghana is scheduled to kick off their tournament journey on Sunday, January 14.
The lackluster display against Namibia has raised concerns among fans and observers, casting a shadow of doubt over Ghana’s readiness for their opening Group B match against Cape Verde.
