Asante Kotoko has suffered a setback in this year’s MTN FA Cup campaign, being ousted from the competition.
Their elimination came after a disappointing 2-0 loss to Karela United during the Round of 16 phase of the tournament.
The showdown between the two Premier League outfits took place on Monday, February 12, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
In a closely contested match, both Karela United and Asante Kotoko displayed commendable performances in the first half, but neither managed to break the deadlock.
However, just two minutes into the second half, Solomon Aboagye’s strike provided Karela United with the crucial lead.
Despite Asante Kotoko’s relentless efforts and numerous goal-scoring opportunities following the setback, they failed to capitalize.
In the 65th minute, Giyas further extended Karela United’s advantage with a splendid shot, sealing a 2-0 victory for the team after 90 minutes of play.
With this result, Karela United secures a berth in the quarter-finals of the MTN FA Cup.
