David Ocloo, the assistant coach for Kotoko, has been officially charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Regulatory Actions due to his comments about the match officials following the team’s recent 1-0 loss to Heart of Lions in Kpando.
The defeat, compounded by Nicholas Mensah’s red card during the match, resulted in Kotoko slipping to fourth place on the league table.
Ocloo’s remarks during the post-match interview mirrored those of head coach Prosper Ogum, expressing dissatisfaction with certain decisions made by the match officials during the game.
The GFA Regulatory Actions deemed Ocloo’s comments to be in violation of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, specifically pertaining to comments made about match officials in post-match reviews.
In a statement released by the GFA, it was stated, “David Ocloo has been charged with a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019. It is alleged that his commentary on the Match Officials constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”
Ocloo has until Wednesday, February 28, 2024, to respond to the charges. The GFA underscores the importance of fair play and respectful discourse regarding match officials, with any perceived misconduct being subject to regulatory actions.
As Kotoko regroups following their first league loss in seven games, they are set to face Bibiani Gold Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium in their upcoming fixture. Despite their elimination from the Ghana FA Cup, Kotoko remains focused on maintaining their competitive edge in the Ghana Premier League.
