The Cameroonian Federation (FECAFOOT) has taken action against Wilfried Nathan Douala, the youngest player in the Indomitable Lions’ 2023 AFCON squad, for age fraud.
Douala, along with 61 other players, has been suspended for concealing their true ages, as per an official list released by FECAFOOT on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
FECAFOOT’s decision aims to reduce administrative complications during and after the relegation and title playoff matches in the Elite One league.
Wilfried Nathan Douala was notably the youngest player named in Rigobert Song’s final squad for the AFCON at just 17 years old. However, it has emerged that he provided false information about his age, leading to his suspension and disqualification from participating in the playoffs.
While FECAFOOT has not disclosed Douala’s true age, his suspension marks a significant setback in his career. Douala, who captained Victoria United, had earned recognition for his talent after being included in the Cameroon squad by Rigobert Song for the prestigious tournament in Ivory Coast.
