The Ghana Football Association Regulatory Actions have charged Asante Kotoko with misconduct following their matchday 23 encounter against Nations Football Club over the weekend.
The Porcupine Warriors endured a disappointing performance, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat in Ghana’s top-flight league on Sunday, as they were defeated 1-0 by Nations FC at the Baba Yara Stadium. Asamoah Afriyie’s late goal in the first half secured all three points for the Premier League newcomers.
However, the loss of points wasn’t the only setback for Kotoko, as the conduct of their fans during the match has triggered an official charge from the GFA.
According to a statement released by the GFA Regulatory Actions on social media, the Kumasi-based club has been accused of violating Section 16 of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, and Section 34 (6) (d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.
The charge stems from the inappropriate behavior of the club’s supporters towards match officials during the game. Additionally, the text commentary posted on the club’s social media platforms regarding the match officials has also been deemed as misconduct.
As a result, Asante Kotoko has been given until Wednesday, March 27, to provide a response to the charges brought against them.
Following their recent defeat, Asante Kotoko has slipped to ninth place in the Ghana Premier League standings, highlighting the challenging period the club currently finds itself in.
The club has also condemned the incident which occurred after the game.
