A 27-year old woman is in critical condition after drinking DDT at Race Course in Kumasi.
Last year, the KMA relocated hawkers on the streets of Kumasi to Abinkyi Market and Race Course.
The traders, who moved to Race Course have been complaining about the low trading activities at the market.
As a result, some of the traders have not occupied the shops they have at the market.
Reports indicate, the managers of the markets were demolishing some shops and also taking over shops the owners have not been using when the incident happened.
The 27-year old trader, whose name has been given as Barikisu, an onion seller, was called from home to come to the market because her shop was being demolished.
Barikusu, upon seeing her shop being demolished, took DDT from her bag and drunk it as she could not stand the sight of losing her shop.
Barikisu was taken to the Komfo Anokye Hospital’s emergency ward and is said to be in critical condition.
Traders close to Bariku said, she went for a loan to build the shop and stocked it with onions.
They indicated thieves stole from her shop a few weeks ago and she was working hard to make up for her loss and get money to pay for the loan.
The traders blame the managers of Race Course for the incident that forced Barikisu’s to take the DDT.
