Excitement for the 2018 World Cup in Russia is slowly starting to build and it could be good news for FIFA 18 fans who already feel like the game is getting a bit stale.
At some time in February or March EA Sports will be releasing a World Cup expansion and it will be FIFA 18 update rather than a standalone game according to Goal.
This was the same strategy EA Sports used for the last World Cup (Brazil 2014) as they released a free update for FIFA 14 Ultimate Team with a new World Cup themed game mode.
The FIFA 14 mode removed the player market and instead, players could only be retrieved through packs that cost just 5,000 coins.
All players were the same rarity so you had an even chance of packing any player. Those players would then be automatically upgraded depending on that player’s real life performance in the tournament.
That included the ridiculous 90-rated card for the record-breaking Miroslav Klose which had 90 pace, 93 shooting and 99 heading.
We know the new FIFA 18 expansion will release in February or March because Spanish commentator Manolo Lama.
Lame confirmed he was set to record extra commentary for the mode while talking on Radio COPE saying: ‘I have to record for FIFA World Cup in December, I think it will be out in February or March.’
However, no official details have been announced by EA Sports as of yet. There will almost certainly be new kits, stadiums and players.
A lot has changed in Ultimate Team since the last World Cup mode. Now we have the squad builder challenges and FUT drafts that are both very popular amongst players.
Draft in particular would lend itself to this if EA try to once again keep the mode cheap and accessible for all players. If they do, international Icon cards would be phenomenal and definitely add a fun twist.
