Some basic school pupils in Adeiso, in the Upper West District of the Eastern Region, have abandoned school and are currently hunting for red-headed male lizards.
Details emerging indicate that the red-headed lizards are now in high demand; hence, the students are hunting for them to sell to potential buyers.
Reporting from the area on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 86.5FM, our reporter Prince Collins Bening said those buying the lizards from the schoolchildren are paying GHC20 for one lizard.
According to him, the lizards are used by ritualists to perform rituals for people who need financial favors or want their businesses to flourish.
He also added that the lizards are potent for ‘FOR GIRLS’, a form of black magic used to woo girls.
Some of the pupils who spoke to the reporter said that hunting for red-headed lizards was lucrative and provided them with money to fend for themselves.
He said they complained that their parents were unable to provide for their needs due to financial challenges, hence the reason for them to hunt for the lizards and sell them to those interested.
“When you get to Adeiso today, numerous schoolchildren have left school to search for red-headed lizards. The pupils told me that their parents were unable to provide for them, so they chose to take advantage of the opportunity to earn money. A lizard costs GHC 20.
“They strike the lizards with sticks or stones before grabbing and selling them. The lizards are used for a variety of ritual purposes,” he said.
