William Essu, the goalkeeper for both the Black Meteors and Legon Cities, has made a public plea to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to release their winning bonuses from their U-23 AFCON victory over Algeria in March 2023.
Essu, who was part of the victorious team, has been facing a severe health condition for several months, and recent images of his deteriorating health have surfaced online. Reports suggest that he has been neglected by his club, Legon Cities, which has led him to publicly call out the GFA to settle the debt.
In a social media post, the 21-year-old goalkeeper called upon Coach Ibrahim Tanko, the entire Black Meteors management, and the Ghana Football Association to come to his aid. He explained that he urgently needs to undergo another health check-up but is unable to raise the funds required, as he has already spent all his savings on medical treatment without improvement.
This plea comes after another Legon Cities goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey, was tragically confirmed dead on the same day due to a short illness.
