The founder of God’s Way International Church, Angel Daniel Obinim has been fined ¢4000 by an Accra court for beating two teenagers at the Accra branch of his church in 2016.
Angel Obinim was given the fine after he pleaded guilty to the offence, however, he has been given a suspended 6 months prison sentence if he does not pay the fine.
“We are satisfied and the court has done justice to the case. My client has learnt his lessons,” his lawyer told the press after the case.
Angel Obinim was sued by Irene Abochie-Nyahe, a legal practitioner who resides at Community 17, Lashibi.
On August 17, 2016, at about 1700 hours, the Accra Branch of the Church held a service and Bishop Obinim who at that time had not been elevated to an “Angel by God” told his church members he has had a revelation from God and has seen that the two alleged victims were engaged in pre-marital sex resulting in the 14-year old girl being pregnant.
Angel Obinim used his belt to beat the two teenagers after he revealed they had even planned to abort the pregnancy.
According to him, he had every right to punish the two teenagers as they are his adopted children.
The boy was 16 years while the girl was 14 years old at the time the incident happened. The incident was broadcasted on his TV station Obinim TV and went viral afterwards.
Two of his junior Pastors Kingsley Baah and Solomon Abraham were also fined ¢4000 by the court for assisting
Angel Obinim in the offence and also face the same punishment as Angel Obinim if they do not pay the fine.
